The 2009 Under Armour Combine Tour finished up its West Coast swing with a stop this past Sunday at the home of the 2008 NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals: University of Phoenix Stadium.  Over 220 of the top football players in the area came out to compete and find out why Under Armour is bringing the most authentic Combine experience in the country to the athletes of the future.

The athletes competed in NFL style Combine drills led by the Under Armour coaching staff featuring former greats Eric Metcalf, George Hegamin and George Teague.

There were several strong times posted at the event that were as strong as we've seen this year. There were several 40-yard dash times in the sub-4.5 range, led by Greenway standout Shawn Jones with a 4.4.  In the Vertical Jump, there were a dozen scores over 35", including Millenum QB Mike Massey who led the field at 38.5". Over at the bench press, 22 athletes put the 185 lb. bar up over 20 times, led by Apache Junction's Cy Maughmer who set the standard for the day with 30 reps. The competition and intensity during the testing helped make the Arizona event one of the best yet.

That intensity also led to one of the most competitive 7-on-7 portions of the Combine season to date. With such a strong balance of top talent throughout each position, the 1-on-1 battles were truly a sight to be seen.

The 2009 Under Armour Combine Tour is off this week, but will be in Indianapolis on April 19th.
